This duo of illustrations represent my own personal journey of shifting perspective while becoming an adult.
I chose to represent my metamorphosis of faith through these two connected but conflicting pieces. The first piece is more structured in nature and everything seems to have a place. The one element missing in the midst of the repeating plus signs represents that feeling that “something is missing and not everything is adding up” in my ridgid construction of god that I held at the time. I liked the idea of disrupting a pattern because that’s what questioning my faith felt like.
The second piece is my current and expanding view of god. While it contains elements of my old view, it’s much more vast and exciting. I repeated the motif on the second piece because there are still elements of my “old faith” that remain but have a different and smaller impact.
